Lion Neil Bowes

DG Neil Bowes was born 11/27/39 in a farmhouse 7 miles northeast of DeSmet, SD. He attended Rose Hill School in 1st grade and the Bowes School 2nd through 8th grade with 6-8 school mates, but no classmates. Neil graduated from DeSmet High School, DeSmet, SD in 1957 and he graduated from USD in Vermillion, SD in 1961 with a major in Speech with an emphasis in Radio and TV and a minor in business.  
Neil was employed as Continuity Director, a Business and Promotion manager (3 years) and as an Advertising Account Manager (49 years), resigning on April 30, 2014. He served in the US Army, 1962-65, with basic training in Fort Ord, California and advanced training in Fort Slocum, New York, and was assigned to Fort Bliss, Texas as Information Specialist and Legal Clerk.  
Neil married Mary Ellen Poulson Beers, April 1967. They have three daughters, teaching in Waubay, Sioux Falls, and British Columbia, Canada, one son in Luverne, and nine grandchildren. He enjoys hockey, baseball, football, and soccer games, bridge, Norwegian Whist, dining out, plays, movies, etc.  
Neil joined the Yankton Lions in 1973 with Lion Paul Hanson as sponsor. He has served on various committees and held various offices, including President in 1977-78, 1991-92, 2003-04, and 2015-16. Neil was Chairman of the 1994 SD Lions State Convention, was Cabinet Treasurer in 1997-98, and served as Zone 8 Chairperson in 2015-16.

Neil is also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton, SD, with service on various boards and committees, including the office of President.

He is currently studying soil, plant, and animal nutrition with Soilworks in Yankton, growing fruits, vegetables and flowers, and playing golf.
